Robert Francis Kennedy Jr. earned the right for his name to appear as an independent candidate on the Michigan ballot, a key state to define the winner of the presidential elections.

Through the nomination of the Natural Law Party, a political group with access to the polls in the state, the 70-year-old lawyer and his running mate Nicole Shanahan secured their place in a second state for their cause.this after getting it a few days ago in Utah.

Doug Dern, president of the Michigan Natural Law Party, announced that, during a convention held midweek among members of the political group, it was decided to endorse Kennedy Jr. as a candidate.

In this regard, the Michigan Secretary of State’s office confirmed that said nomination was approved, which could perhaps modify the fate of the elections in the entity.

In 2016, at the state level, Donald Trump beat Joe Biden in Michigan; while—four years later—the result was reversed, but what is striking about the case is that the difference in both electoral processes was less than 1% of the votes between them.

This time, the situation is projected to be different because, with the participation of an independent candidate in the race for the White House, a survey conducted by the newspaper Wall Street Journal places Joe Biden’s candidacy as the most affected.

With three candidates on the Michigan ballot, Trump would get 39%; Biden 37% and Kennedy Jr. 12%.

It is noteworthy that, except for the victory obtained by the Republican over Hillary Clinton, in 2016, with an advantage of 11 thousand votes; Michigan citizens have supported the Democratic candidate in every presidential election since 1992.

Another interesting point is that, eight years ago, part of the defeat of the Democrats in the entity is also related to the 220 thousand votes obtained separately between Gary Johnson, candidate of the Libertarian Party; and Jill Stein, Green Party candidate.

That is, the participation of more than two candidates did have a determining impact on the process, which could happen again given the popularity that supports RFK Jr.

Hence follows the campaign that the Democrats are sponsoring to try to make him look like a politician linked to the interests of conservatives, calling him a saboteur of the elections.
