Colorado Rockies under federal investigation after breaking rules on flight

The Colorado Rockies are under federal investigation after a video went viral showing hitting coach Hensley Meulens sitting in the cockpit of the charter plane.

Meulens, in a deleted video originally posted to his Instagram account, he appears to be sitting in one of the pilot’s chairs as the camera pans around the cockpit, showing the pilot next to him.

“I had some fun in the cabin of our flight from Denver to Toronto,” Meulens captioned. “Thank you to the captain and first officer of our United charter flight who allowed me this great experience.

United Airlines reported that the plane was at cruising altitude and the autopilot was on.

According to UA, the presence of the Colorado Rockies hitting coach represents a clear violation of security and operating policies. In addition, they reported that they have “held” the service pilots while an internal investigation is carried out.

The video dates back to April 10 when the Colorado Rockies were traveling from Denver to Toronto, where they played the series last weekend.

“We are deeply disturbed by what we see in that video, which appears to show an unauthorized person on the flight deck at cruising altitude while autopilot was engaged,” United Airlines told CNN in a statement.

“The FAA is investigating this event,” a spokesperson told Denver affiliate KDVR FOX. “Federal regulations restrict flight deck access to specific individuals. “We do not comment on the details of the open investigations.”

The Colorado Rockies have not issued a statement about the investigation or any sanctions against the hitting coach.

The team has a record of 4 wins and 15 losses in the last position of the West Division of the National League.
