On Thursday night a devastating fire broke out in the Overlook Hotelin Oregon City, an establishment that became world famous for hosting the horror film ‘The Shinning’starring Jack Nicholson and directed by Stanley Kubrick.

The news of the strong fire immediately made the front pages of the local media because of everything it represented. Timberline Lodgeas it was known in the plot, for the town and for those tourists who stayed there only because of their great love for the famous film.

According to information from various local media, the fire occurred in the attic area of ​​the building, which has an area of 55,000 square feet.

“For two hours, firefighters doused the burning roof with water in windy conditions, bringing the serious blaze under control before midnight,” TMZ reported.

Despite the spectacular nature of the scenes, there are no reports of injured or intoxicated people, while the works of art inside, considered historical assets, were removed from the site without suffering further damage.

So far the causes of the accident are unknown, however, one of the hypotheses suggests that it all started with the embers of a chimney.

This incident is not the first it has suffered since its construction since in 1911 a gas explosion occurred causing considerable damage.

What is the Stanley Hotel like in real life?

The Stanley Hotel is a colonial-style establishment located in Estes Park, Coloradowhich was built by Freelan Oscar Stanley and opened on July 4, 1909 as a resort hotel for the upper classes and as a health retreat for those suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis.

Over the years the establishment, with 140 rooms, underwent a number of modifications and expansions, until it became what it is today.

It has a reception service, restaurant, spa and incredible views of Lake Estates, The Rockies and Longs Peak.
