Strong fire breaks out at the historic Oceanside pier in San Diego County

Firefighters fought this Thursday afternoon against a Fire that broke out at a former Ruby’s Diner on the historic Oceanside City Pierin San Diego County.

The flames were reported shortly after 3:00 p.m.and according to authorities, the fire started in a vacant building at the western end of the pier.

Ruby’s Diner closed its doors three years ago.

Dozens of residents and visitors watched from the shore the thick column of smoke that enveloped the end of the historic pier.

The Oceanside Pier was originally built in 1888but was destroyed twice: it fell during a storm in 1890 and was rebuilt in 1896. The pier was destroyed again in 1902.
