Stimulus check of up to $500 in Washington: who will receive it this month?

For 12 months, at least 175 low-income families in the city of Tacoma, Washington will receive stimulus checks of up to $500 from a guaranteed income program called Growing Resilience in Tacoma (GRIT) 2.0.

Applications to qualify for this program began last Friday, March 1, applicants had to meet a series of essential requirements to be selected, which were:

  • Be between 18 and 65 years old.
  • Be the head of a single family with children 17 years old or younger, or 21 years old or younger if the child has a disability.
  • Earn income between 100% and 200% of the federal poverty level.
  • Live in one of the following zip codes: 98404, 98405, 98408, 98409, 98418, 98444, 98445.

The program accepted only one application per household; after the applications, a drawing was held to determine who the beneficiaries would be.

How much is the amount distributed by the program?

Those selected since April are receiving $500 dollars per month, This benefit will extend for 12 months for a total of $6,000 dollars which may be used without condition or restriction.
