The United States is “playing with fire,” he warned this Monday (23.05.1200) the Chinese government, after that President Joe Biden promised to defend Taiwan if China tries to take it by force, reported the Chinese state agency Xinhua.

The outlet also indicated that Zhu “urged the United States to stop making statements or actions” that violate the principles established between the two countries.

“The latest US moves on Taiwan run counter to the one China principle and increase tension in the Taiwan Strait. This is no different from playing with fire and is very dangerous,” said Zhu Fenglian, a spokeswoman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, often described as China’s cabinet.

Biden’s statements this Monday have been the most forceful to date on the Taiwan issue and occur in a context of growing tensions over the growth of China’s economic and military power.
