Carlos Vela’s novel stings and spreads. The Mexican forward ended his relationship with Los Angeles FC, but did not accept any other offers to remain active. In the middle of these “sabbatical” months, the former Mexican national team goalscorer could hang up his boots.

Carlos Vela still had the wood to stay active. However, the veteran Mexican forward decided not renew his contract with Los Angeles FC. The American board tried to retain him, but the registration window has already ended.

On April 23, the deadline for Liga MX clubs to register new players in their squads ended. That day ended and with it the hopes that Carlos Vela would once again wear the shirt of the Los Angeles team.

This panorama gives Carlos Vela a few sabbatical months. The Mexican forward would have to wait until summer of 2024 to re-enter negotiations with a team and thus remain active. However, if this negotiation does not come to fruition, the “Bomber” could hang up his boots.

“If the conditions are not right for him to grab what he wants, without leaving Los Angeles, Vela could say goodbye to his career. He will wait until summer to see if LAFC can meet the price; Otherwise, we would be facing goodbye to Cracklitos”reported Fernando Cevallos.

However, there is a card up their sleeve that could favor Los Angeles FC and any MLS club that wishes to acquire the services of Carlos Vela. For the next season, the player contracted under the status of “Salary Allocation Money” (GAM) comes into effect.

This new modality allows clubs offer larger amounts of money without having to pigeonhole these footballers as “franchise players”. This could give greater room for maneuver to the Los Angeles board, which has always expressed its desire to keep the Mexican forward on its roster.

Carlos Vela’s numbers in the MLS

Carlos Vela arrived at Los Angeles FC in January 2018. Since then, the Mexican has left a very big mark on soccer in the United States.

With the LAFC shirt, the “Bombardero” accumulates 188 games. For more than 13,900 minutes on the field, the Mexican has scored 93 goals with the club and has distributed 54 assists.
