After receiving threats of a lawsuit from Tupac Shakur’s legal team, Drake decided to delete the song “Taylor Made Freestyle”in which he used the late rapper’s voice generated with artificial intelligence (AI).

In accordance with Variety, The Canadian rapper removed the song from his social media after attorney Howard King, representing Tupac’s estate, issued a statement saying he sent a cease and desist. to Drake to lower the topic.

“The State is deeply shocked and disappointed by the unauthorized use of Tupac’s voice and persona,” King wrote. “Not only is the record a flagrant violation of Tupac’s publicity and estate’s legal rights, it is also a flagrant abuse of the legacy of one of the greatest hip-hop artists of all time. The State would never have given its approval for this use,” he added.

In addition to the warning from the legal team of Tupac’s heirs, Drake was also asked to send written confirmation of the song’s removal.

Until now, Drake has not commented following the statements made by the legal representatives of Tupac’s estate.

Last Friday, April 19, Drake published “Taylor Made Freestyle” on his Instagram account, a throwdown for Kendrick Lamar. which included AI-generated voices of Tupac Shakur and Snoop Dogg.

This was not the first time that Tupac’s voice was used on a posthumous song. In the past, Kendrick Lamar used the rapper’s voice in “Mortal Man.” He took clips from an interview and they were edited to make it sound as if the two were in conversation.

In “Taylor Made Freestyle,” Tupac and Snoop Dogg criticized Lamarwhich did not please the rapper’s heirs since the letter underlines the respectful relationship that Lamar has maintained with Tupac’s legacy both publicly and privately.

For his part, after the publication of the song, Snoop Dogg vaguely addressed the use of his AI-generated voice in a video posted to his social media. “What did you do? When? As? “Are you sure?” said the rapper.

Drake’s song reignited the debate about the use of AI in music, since in the past the Canadian rapper had been very critical of creators who have used AI to duplicate their voice and musical style.
