The American surfer killed in Mexico was about to get married in Ohio

One of the surfers who was found murdered during a recent trip to Baja California, Mexico, was engaged and planned to get married next summer.

Brothers Jake Robinson, 30, and Callum Robinson, 33, traveled with their friend Jack Carter Rhoad, 30, at the end of April for a surfing trip. Her bodies were found in a well with bullet holes after they did not show up at the accommodation they had reserved.

An online wedding registry from the Zola site claimed that Rhoad would marry Natalie Weirtz on August 17 in Columbus, Ohio, as reported by People.

On said portal, just below the date and the option for guests to confirm their attendance at the event, there was a photo of the couple smiling while walking hand in hand, although the event has already been removed from the website.

The couple had intended to hold a welcome party the night before with family and friends.

GoFundMe campaign launched

“In the wake of the heartbreaking loss of Carter Rhoad, Callum Robinson and Jake Robinson, our hearts ache for their families, friends and community,” organizer Aubrey Byers wrote on a GoFundMe account posted on May 5.

“Their presence brought immeasurable joy, love and kindness to those around them, leaving a mark on our lives,” added Byers, who identified herself as “a good friend of Carter and Natalie,” before explaining the purpose of the campaign.

“We have created this GoFundMe page for two purposes: the first is to rally support for Natalie during this unimaginably difficult time and provide essentials such as housing, food, transportation, and more,” he wrote.

“The second is honor Carter by raising money for scholarships and donations he was passionate about. “No donation is too small and every contribution is deeply appreciated.”

Until Wednesday, May 8, GoFundMe had reached more than $68,000and the goal is to reach $250,000.

Another photo shared on the account shows Rhoad and Weirtz laughing together during an outdoor photo shoot at sunset.

“If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this page with your community. Together, we can continue to surround this family with the love and support they need to navigate this challenging journey. Thank you for your kindness, compassion and solidarity during this time of profound loss,” Byers concluded.

Jake, Callum and Rhoad were last seen surfing and camping along the Mexican coast, south of Ensenada, on April 27.

On May 3, Mexican authorities issued a statement to report the discovery of 3 bodies at the bottom of a well located in the community of Santo Tomás, and two days later the identity of the victims was confirmed.

The attorney general of the state of Baja California, María Elena Andrade Ramírez, said during a press conference that the surfers would have been victims of an assaultand were probably killed when trying to fight off the robbers.
