Alejandro Irarragorri was accused of benefiting from arbitration for Atlas' two-time championship. Why?

70 were the years that had to pass for Atlas to be crowned champion of the First Division of Mexicobut in the Clausura 2022 tournament they achieved a historic and unexpected event in the club’s history, as they became two-time champions by defeating the Tuzos del Pachuca in a penalty shootout.

The controversial arbitration decision that apparently led Atlas to the two-time championship

Alejandro Carlos Irarragorri Gutiérrez has been involved in different controversial scenes in football Mexican since he became the owner of two Liga MX clubs, and one of the ones that resonated the most was around Atlas’ two-time championship. His victory not only meant a historical legacy for the entire red and black team, among the media and experts in the field, they questioned the way in which the team managed to advance to the final and highlighted the issue arbitral.

In the semi-final return against Pumas, the refereeing decisions caused quite a bit of controversy and a lot of controversy, leaving more doubts than answers and obviously a lot of annoyance among the Pumas fan. Juan Ignacio Dinenno was hit in the face by Anderson Santamaría, and even though his nose was broken, the referee of that match did not send off the Atlas defender and did not score a penalty, since the action occurred in the area.

However, something quite similar would happen later when Dinenno, who hit the Chilean to Jesus Angulo. The difference was that in said action the referee did make the decision to expel the then Pumas forward; On the field, the players demanded this decision, since that penalty would have changed the history of the Clausura 2022 final.

For those who asked me and claimed that nothing had happened after my El #CartelDelGol report, I have news for you:

Atlas eliminated Pumas and managed to reach the final to compete for the championship. The winner was decided in the penalty round, with the Tuzos del Pachuca being the victims at that time.

After everything mentioned above and so much controversy that existed at that timeexperts in the field commented that the possible relationship that existed between José Riestra López, at that time sports president of Atlas, and Iñigo Riestra, who was general secretary of the Mexican Football Federation, perhaps had something to do with it.

Faitelson once again in controversy

David Faitelson was one of the critics who accused a possible relationship of interest between the president of Atlas with the FMF, and precisely for this reason the issue of controversial decisions by the referees in said confrontation had much more weight.

Alejandro Irarragorri put José Riestra in the position of president of Atlas when he acquired the team with Grupo Orlegi, it should also be noted that in the Liga MX owners’ meeting, Irarragorri was one of those who raised his voice for the proposal to eliminate relegation in the First Division and change the classification format to a league, issues for which he also received strong criticism and questioning.

Arturo Elías Ayúb was the person who made known the position of the president of Grupo Orlegiin an interview with Toño de Valdés for his YouTube channel, had strong words against Irarragorri.

“The thing about promotion and descent, what a thing, right?… Nothing more than because someone suddenly thought of That because his team was doing poorly, which by the way he had just bought, well I’m going to fix it so that there is no relegation, because the club cost me millions of dollars. What is that? “He explained in reference to the owner of Atlas.

Complicated times in Atlas

Those golden times seemed to be left behind since in the current season they did not manage qualify for the league, they returned to the bottom of the classification table and as if that were not enough, their sports director, Alejandro Irarragorri, would be under investigation for a possible crime of tax fraud.

The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) could summon Irarragorri to an initial hearing to seek solve its fiscal situation with the aforementioned, especially due to what was declared at the time in 2017 regarding the salaries of the players of the then Santos Laguna club squad.

Even though the Comarca Lagunera team issued a statement that it also spread on its social networksin which they deny the criminal accusations against their sports director, the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic would be continuing with the process and in the following days would be summoning the president of Grupo Orlegi.
