Israel’s military offensive in the Gaza Strip, which has led to the deaths of more than 34,000 Palestinians since October, causes outrage among a large sector of students who, in educational institutions such as Columbia University, do not stop protesting, demanding an immediate ceasefire from the Jewish nation.

Hundreds of university students, in solidarity with the situation that prevails in the Middle East, have practically converted the green spaces of the campuses into areas to set up tents and blankets with legends in repudiation of the Israeli strategy of continuing to bomb the few buildings and houses that remain. standing in Gaza, this regardless of the fact that some families remain sheltered inside.

The discomfort of American university students has to do with the federal government continuing to support its ally without conditioning its arms support. at least to the entry of humanitarian aid destined for the war zone.

Regarding a possible ceasefire, that seems to be a dead letter and unrelated to the interests of the government headed by Benjamin Netanyau.

Faced with this positioning, the university community that attends different educational centers in the country also seems to have closed ranks against Israel.

Exercising your right to demonstrate, Students no longer only repudiate Jewish actions, but have gone to the next level by demanding that their own academic institutions stop investing in any action that could represent support for the Jewish nation..

The complexity of the matter is that some students of Israeli origin or roots argue that they are beginning to feel their integrity is threatened, since those who seem to support the Palestinians allegedly claim to be being watched with suspicion by some of their classmates on campus.

Another factor that could intensify pressure on university campuses is the intervention of the authorities by making some arrests of students, which does nothing to help put an end to the protests.

Meanwhile, some school officials continue negotiating with protesting students to get them to leave peacefully, which really seems complex.
