The Social Security Administration (SSA) confirmed that for next Friday, May 31, some beneficiaries will receive a second check through the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program for up to $699.
This program that covers both retirees under 65 years of age, low-income seniors, seniors and children with disabilitiessends your payments monthly and as its name indicates, it is a complementary check.
The average payment for these checks according to the SSA is $699; However, depending on some factors, individual beneficiaries may receive $943 dollars, married people $1,415 dollars and essential people up to $472 dollars every month.
Now, the average amount of a 65-year-old retiree who receives SSI is $574 dollars, while those under 18 years old could receive approximately $821 per month.
Why will double checks be sent in May?
The SSA establishes a payment schedule every month to set the exact dates on which each beneficiary will receive their check; nevertheless, The entity may make some adjustments if the days on which the money is to be sent coincide with a weekend or holiday.in this case advances the payment date.
In this sense, since SSI payments are sent on the first day of each month a double check in May for program beneficiaries is not additional moneybut an advance payment for the month of June because it coincides with the weekend.
What will the next Social Security payments be?
In the coming weeks, retirees retired after May 1997 will receive their Social Security checks:
- Wednesday, May 8: payment to retirees after May 1997 born between the 1st and 10th of any month.
- Wednesday, May 15: payment to retirees after May 1997 born between the 11th and 20th of any month.
- Wednesday, May 22: payment to retirees after May 1997 born between the 21st and 31st of any month.
