Ricky Martin has big plans for LGBT pride month. In June, the Puerto Rican singer will headline the LA Pride in the Park 2024 festival.
On Thursday, the Christopher Street West Association (CSW) announced that The “Livin’ la vida loca” singer would be the first openly gay Latin artist to headline the iconic festivalwhich will be held on Saturday, June 8 at the Los Angeles State Historical Park.
“I am thrilled to lead LA Pride in the Park because it is an incredible opportunity to celebrate love, diversity and equality,” Martin said in a press release according to Entertainment Tonight.
“LA Pride is a testament to the power of community, the power of visibility, and the power of standing up for our rights. Being part of this vibrant community fills me with pride and purpose,” adds the 52-year-old singer.
In accordance with Billboard, The theme of this year’s festival is “Power in Pride.”which celebrates the LGBTIQ+ community’s ability to live authentically.
“With his electrifying stage presence and chart hits, Ricky Martin has long been an inspiration to millions around the world,” said Gerald Garth, CSW/LA Pride board president, of the singer.
“Their participation in LA Pride in the Park goes beyond mere entertainment, it symbolizes a powerful affirmation of queer Latino identity and a celebration of diversity within the LGBTQ+ community. “We can’t wait to be ‘Livin’ La Vida Loca’ while bursting with pride,” she added.
LA Pride in the Park is one of the largest official Pride festivals in the United States with a capacity for 25,000 people.
His father encouraged him to share his sexual orientation
Ricky Martin, who declared himself openly gay in 2010, revealed that his father was the one who encouraged him more than a decade ago to be honest and share your sexual orientation with the world.
In a recent interview with Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens LiveRicky He commented that his father, who is a psychologist, recommended him to be honest with his fans. “He said, ‘Rick, you need to come forward.’ Especially when I became a father, he told me, ‘What are you going to teach your children, to lie?’” he recalled.
Ricky Martin was married to Jwan Yosef for six years. Last year, the singer and the painter announced their separation.
The Puerto Rican singer and the Swedish painter got married on January 10, 2018, after dating for two years.
As a couple, they had two children: Lucía, born in 2018, and Renn, who was born in 2019.; However, Martin has two other children: twins Matteo and Valentino, born in 2008.
