Authorities reported that An Idaho man was sentenced Friday to up to 30 years in prison for attempting to intentionally transmit HIV through sexual contact.

Investigators found that Alexander Louie, 34, who is HIV positive, was not taking medication and “intentionally having sexual contact with men and adolescent boys in the hopes of transferring HIV to them.” This was indicated by the Ada County Prosecutor’s Office in a press release.

“He lied to these victims about their HIV status. According to the defendant’s own confessions, he had sexual relations with between 30 and 50 different men, including a 16-year-old boy.“said the prosecution.

“Your conduct would be Webster’s definition of a predator,” Judge O’Neill said during the defendant’s sentencing on Friday.

The investigation into Louie began in August 2023 as a child seduction case after he initiated “an online sexual conversation” with someone he believed was a 15-year-old boy, but who was actually an undercover detective.

Louie was arrested after trying to meet up with who he believed was a 15-year-old boy for sex, authorities said.

The investigation led Louie to plead guilty to one felony count of transferring bodily fluids containing the HIV virus. He was also found guilty of felony sexual assault with a minor and child enticement, according to court records.

Louie was sentenced to 30 years in prison and must serve a minimum of 16 years before being eligible for parole.the prosecution said.

“This defendant’s repeated and egregious crimes negatively affected many people in our community,” said Ada County Prosecutor Jan Bennetts.

“I want to thank the Ada County Sheriff’s Detective and my trial team. “His hard work on this case ensured that Mr. Louie was brought to justice to protect our community from his predatory and dangerous conduct,” he added.
