Payments of up to $1,050 are due this Friday for tax refunds for California's middle class

Millions of eligible residents will receive up to $1,050 dollars starting this Friday when delivery of the first payments of the state tax refund program for California’s middle class begins.

It is estimated that close to 23 million Californians who pay taxes qualify for the rebates, with smaller payments going to people with higher incomes.

According to Governor Gavin Newsom’s Office, the payments, which are technically tax refunds, are intended to help residents deal with rising costs.

    In June, the governor of California and state lawmakers reached an agreement to make the rebates when gas prices in the state reached record numbers.

    To qualify for the rebate, residents needed to have submitted your tax return for 2021 before October 2021 and have income less than $150,000 Dollars per year.

    If eligible, residents do not need to carry out any paperwork or request and will receive their payment automatically.

    According to the California Franchise Tax Board website, eligible residents will receive their payments via direct deposit issued to their bank accounts or by a debit card sent by mail.

    Direct deposit payments to bank accounts are expected to be issued during windows 7 to 25 October 2022, and the 28 from October to November 2022.

    State officials expect close to 90% of direct deposits to be delivered during the month of October of 2022.

    Debit cards will be sent between 25 October and 07 from December to 2022, and it is expected that all the cards will be received before 15 of January of 2023.

    The authorities said that around 95% of all payments, both direct deposits and debit cards, can be issued by the end of this year.

    Direct deposit payments will be delivered to eligible taxpayers who electronically filed their California tax returns from 2020 and received their California tax refunds via direct deposit.

    Taxpayers remaining eligible will receive their payments in the form of a debit card, according to the California Franchise Tax Board website.
