Mexico registers in April the second most violent month this 2022, with 84 murders a day

During April of 2018 2 were registered,547 intentional homicides in Mexico, so that it became the second most violent month of the year, with an average of 84.9 murders per day or 3.5 violent deaths per hour.

According to official government figures, it was reported that in January 2022 there were 2, 436 intentional homicides; in February, 2, 261 cases; and in March of this year there were 2 651 homicides.

Despite the tragic number, the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador assured that April of 2022 is the April with the fewest intentional homicides since 2018, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, head of the Secretary of Security, assured that, “Intentional homicide decreases .1 percent. This is the lowest month of April for five years compared to the historical maximum”.

The Secretary of Security also pointed out that Michoacán, Guanajuato, Edomex, Baja California, Jalisco and Sonora concentrate the 31 percent of intentional homicides in the country.

In addition, intentional homicides increased in one out of three of the country’s most violent municipalities. Among these are: Zamora, Michoacán; Celaya, Guanajuato; Morelia, Michoacan; Mexicali, Baja California, and Monterrey, Nuevo León.

In terms of femicide, this crime presented an increase of 9%, going from 75 in March to 82 in April.
