The presidential candidate of the Mexican ruling party, Claudia Sheinbaum, promised in the second official debate to build 100 new industrial parks to take advantage of the phenomenon of chain relocation or “nearshoring”.

“We are going to develop another 10 wellness centers throughout the country to take advantage of the relocation that is taking place at this time. Among other things, we are going to create 100 industrial parks linked to regional vocations, with education and development for well-being,” stated Sheinbaum.

In the debate organized by the National Electoral Institute (INE) at the Churubusco Studios in Mexico Citythe candidate defended the infrastructure works of the Government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, such as the Mayan Train, the Interoceanic Corridor and the Dos Bocas refinery, all three in the southeast of Mexico.

The candidate of the ruling National Regeneration Movement (Morena) also promised to raise the minimum wage so that it is equivalent to 2.5 basic baskets.

“(There are) better salaries. Remember that salaries did not increase for 36 years in the country and for the first time they increased 110% (in López Obrador’s administration), we are going to bring salaries to 2.5 basic baskets,” he said.

The former head of Government of Mexico City (2018-2023) asserted that in the current six-year term (2018-2024) 5.1 million Mexicans escaped poverty.

“For the first time since 1982 we are below 40% of the poor populationand at the same time inequality decreased,” he stated.

“During the time of (Felipe) Calderón (president from 2006 to 2012), inequality between rich and poor reached 35 times. With the transformation (of López Obrador), inequality has decreased 17 times, that is, it is a different model, before those at the top were supported, now those at the bottom are supported,” he mentioned.

“It’s good that the PRIAN candidate has accepted that she is the candidate of the PRI and the PAN, of the old model, of the past, of neoliberalism, which has already failed. We represent the transformation and the transformation has given well-being to the people of Mexico,” she stated.
