Cruz Azul dismissed this Wednesday the Peruvian coach Juan Reynoso

as a result of the team’s loss in the semi-finals of the Mexican Clausura Tournament against Tigres.

Reynoso, who led Cruz Azul to the title of the Clausura tournament 2021, accumulated disappointing results in both following championships.

After almost 29 Years without a league title, Reynoso led the Blues to win their ninth league championship last May. However, in the Apertura 2021 they lowered their performance and failed to qualify for the final group.

In the next competition, the Clausura, Reynoso’s men had ups and downs but managed to enter the quarterfinals after eliminating Necaxa in a series of penalties.

After losing 0-1 in their stadium in the first leg of the eight best phase against Tigres, the Celestes beat the felines by the same margin in the second leg.

In the semi-finals of the Concacaf Champions League the team lost to Pumas and last Sunday was eliminated by Tigres, both times by letting go of clear scoring opportunities , like those of the Chilean Iván Morales, who in both tournaments was able to score the winning goals, but did not hit.

Although he left a favorable balance , 29 trumps, 16 draws and 15 losses, Reynoso was criticized this semester for insisting on the field with players who did not produce results.

According to the media, differences with the board accelerated the departure of the coach.
