AMLO questions the repression in the US against students who demonstrate in favor of Palestine

The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, He questioned the repression in the United States of the thousands of students protesting in favor of Palestine at dozens of universities across the country.

“They pay a lot of attention to what other countries do and it is biblical: they see the speck in another’s eye and not the log in their own. Just look at yesterday (the demonstrations), we don’t get involved, but look at yesterday, they are the judges to judge on human rights”said the president during his morning press conference.

The Mexican president showed a video about the events in the state of Texas, where on Wednesday state police on horseback and in riot gear broke into a peaceful protest against the war in the Gaza Strip and detained students who were demonstrating in favor of Palestine. .

According to US authorities, The protests have so far spread through Austin (Texas) and New Mexicoin addition to those in recent days in Berkeley (California), Yale (Connecticut), Michigan, Minnesota, Chicago, Los Angeles and Washington.

The American political class has mostly positioned itself against the protests.

López Obrador denounced hypocrisy after the US Department’s annual human rights report, which warned of violence and impunity in Mexico.

He criticized the United States for being “world judges” in defense of human rights, at the same time that this type of repression occurs in protests, in addition to “other worse things.”

“How are they going to be world judges on the defense of human rights if they are the ones that sell the most weapons in the world? And are they toy weapons? No! “They are weapons of destruction that lead to the loss of human lives, of innocent people,” she stated.

His statement comes just a day after US President Joe Biden signed into law a law valued at $95.3 billion that includes $60.8 billion for Ukraine, $26.4 billion in military aid for Israel and $8.1 billion for Washington’s allies. in Asia, such as Taiwan.

In that sense, he stated that it is necessary to be “brave” so that after approving the weapons management policy they want to act as “judges” in matters of human rights. “That is very serious,” she insisted.

However, he pointed out that it is best to respect the sovereignty of the people and not get involved in these types of issues.
