Former female tennis legend confessed that she suffers from ovarian cancer

Former tennis player Chris Evert, eighteen-time Grand Slam champion, reported this Friday that she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and expressed that she shares the news to give hope and help to others.

“I wanted to share my cancer diagnosis stage 1 ovarian cancer, as a way to help others. I feel very lucky that it was detected early and I look forward to positive results from my chemotherapy plan”, reported Evert in a statement posted on Twitter.

“Thank you all for respecting my need to focus on my health and treatment plan. You will see me appear from home on occasion during ESPN’s coverage of the Australian Open.”

Evert’s younger sister, Jeanne Evert Dubin, passed away from the same illness in February 2020 at the age of 62 years.

Evert discovered through enhanced genetic testing that she, too, was at risk and her cancer was diagnosed in December after undergoing a preventive hysterectomy, according to the article. on ESPN.

“I’ve lived a very charmed life,” Evert noted. “Now I have some challenges ahead of me. But I take comfort in knowing that the chemotherapy is to make sure the cancer doesn’t come back.”

Evert won 157 WTA singles titles and reached at least the semifinals in 52 of the 56 Grand Slam tournaments in which he participated.

Her rivalry with Martina Navratilova, which extends from 1973 through 1988 and includes 14 clashes in Grand Slam finals, is one of the greatest in the history of the sport.

Since he retired, Evert has worked as a commentator and has also mentored talented young players navigating the early stages of their WTA careers.
