Los Angeles County launches internet service that benefits low-income residents

Los Angeles County announced that will offer its own high-speed broadband Internet service and that will benefit low-income residents.

The Internet service will be a great help to residents of South Los Angeles, East Los Angeles and the Boyle Heights area, where it is planned charge some residents as little as $25 a month.

It was reported that the service will be available later this year and will be offered through public-private partnerships called Community Broadband Networks.

Customers will have a fast, fixed wireless connection, with a speed of up to 2 gigabits per secondaccording to the requested plan.

As for the price of the plans, they will start at $65 for speeds up to 500 Mbps, and they will reach up to $85 dollars for 2 gigabytes.

Low-income residents could pay $25 a month for service with a speed of 500 Mbps, up to $45 dollars per month for a speed of 2 gigabytes.

Eligibility requirements for the new program include a family income below 200% of the federal poverty line or receive government benefits like SNAP or Medicaid.

All plans come with unlimited data and without the need to have a contract for the service. According to Los Angeles County, the most affordable level of service would be enough for a family to stream high-quality video on multiple devices.

Los Angeles County plans to expand Internet service to other citiesbut prices in those areas could differ, depending on who the county partners with.

News of Los Angeles County’s new service comes as millions of Americans face higher internet bills due to A popular government program that provided $30 monthly discounts was running out of funds..

It is expected that the last resources available to the program will be delivered in May to households as a partial benefit before funds are completely exhausted.
