Why the “World's Largest” Cast Iron Skillet Is Traveling the Road in Tennessee

Many must have wondered the same thing when they saw this truck passing by carrying a huge cast-iron skillet on a highway in Tennessee.

The load of an unusual large size that was traveling on the road was a cast iron skillet weighing 14,360 pounds and is said to be the largest in the world.

The store Lodge Cast Iron of South Pittsburgh, the future home of the Lodge Cast Iron Museum, will have the gigantic frying pan, measuring about 18 feet from handle to handle and was created to serve as an attraction for the museum, according to Fox 17.

Museum visitors will be able to take a closer look at the story behind of the cast iron skillet, go behind the scenes to see what it takes to make one of those pans and listen ar the stories surrounding some of the cast iron collections and the southern dishes served in them.

“In 2021, we celebrate the 125 years of Lodge Cast Iron, and as we look forward to the 2022 and the next 125 years, we are thrilled to bring the Lodge Cast Iron Museum to South Pittsburgh,” said Mike Otterman, company CEO and president.

“By covering everything from the history of cast iron to how it is used today, the museum is an exciting opportunity to celebrate our community and share Lodge with the world through this unparalleled experience,” said Otterman .

Lodge manufactures cast iron cookware at its family-owned foundries in south Pittsburg, Tennessee , from 1896, according to their website.

Cast iron skillets are virtually indestructible and can be used for sautéing , fry, brown, bake, braise, roast and many more cooking techniques.
