Anabel Hernandez is a Mexican journalist specialized in organized crime, whose books and reports in various media have uncovered the enormous corruption and network of complicity between the government and the drug cartels.

His new work, titled “The secret history. “AMLO and the Sinaloa Cartel”seems to be no exception, since in this book he explains the alleged illicit financing that occurred in the three presidential campaigns of Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

Based on interviews with US officials and former members of the Sinaloa Cartel, Hernández details the meetings that emissaries of said criminal group held with logistics operators from AMLO’s presidential campaigns of 2006, 2012 and 2018.

One of the episodes narrated in the almost 350-page book talks about the encounter that the drug trafficker had. Sergio Villarreal Barraganalias “El Grande”, with López Obrador himself, in a hotel in Gómez Palacio, Durango.

“El Grande” was one of the most important operators of the Beltrán Leyva Cartel and, since his capture, he has been a key witness in important trials such as that of the former secretary Genaro García Luna.

What does López Obrador think of the book?

After the first details of the publication were made known, the Mexican president attacked the journalist, emphasizing that the launch of the book when the presidential elections in Mexico are about to be held is no coincidence.

“How do you explain that Anabel Hernández’s book is coming out these days, a month before the election? “Is it a coincidence?” said López Obrador. “And there is not a single piece of evidence, it is pure slander, pure lies,” added the president.

Likewise, he assured that all these accusations, for political purposes, have not and will not affect him, despite the fact that he has been facing these attacks for many years.

“They do not present a single proof, they are slanderers, a single test. And I summon you, I call on you to present evidence,” the president concluded.
