Hispanic woman hit school bus driver in Arizona, causing her pacemaker to fail

Police reported Wednesday that A Hispanic mother in Arizona allegedly jumped onto her daughter’s school bus and severely hit the driver.which caused the victim’s pacemaker to deliver an electric shock.

Hermenegilda Marquez, 27, faces a felony charge of aggravated assault to a school employee for the alleged attack in front of at least 11 school children in Mesa last Thursday, Arizona Family reported.

According to court documents obtained by the local news station, the Hispanic woman left the 64-year-old driver “visibly upset and crying” when responding officers noticed a red mark under her eye, according to court documents obtained. by the local news station.

The victim, who was a substitute bus driver, told police that as soon as she stopped at one of the bus stops near the intersection of McKellips Road and Country Club Drive shortly after 2 p.m., Marquez approached the door and started yelling at her, accusing her of saying things about her daughter.

The driver claimed that she did not even know Márquez or her daughter and reportedly told the suspect that she had not told anyone anything.

That’s when he said Marquez attacked, according to court documents.

Detectives reviewed surveillance footage, which showed Marquez boarding the bus and yelling and cursing at the driver. The suspect is then seen looking at the children on the bus and asking about her daughter, before yelling at the driver again.

At that moment, the victim asked Márquez to get off the bus and grabbed a radio headset. But the woman then punched the driver and grabbed the radio cable, according to Arizona Family.

She proceeded to get off the bus, but returned a few moments later and shoved the bus driver, who was still buckled in his seat, saying, “You’re talking s**t to my daughter.”

Márquez began slapping the driver repeatedly on the head with his closed fists. The woman’s boyfriend then got on the bus and tried to drag her out of the vehicle, but she grabbed the driver by the hair with both hands and tried to pull her out of the seat.

Fortunately, the victim’s seat belt prevented her from being dragged away, so she used a radio to call for help as Marquez drove away.

After the attack, The victim said his pacemaker began to shock him and he required medical attention for various injuries.

Marquez was arrested on Wednesday. Detectives showed her surveillance footage of the attack and told her they would charge her with a felony, but she “showed no emotion,” Fox 10 reported.

The woman was already on unsupervised probation for a domestic violence assault conviction, and was taking classes and paying fines, according to Arizona Family.

In a letter to families Thursday, Mesa School District officials said they understand this is very disturbing.

“Safety is our top priority at Mesa Public Schools and we are confident that Mesa Police will reach a resolution,” they said as the assault remains under investigation, according to 12 News.

“We all have a responsibility to keep our campuses, buses and all district properties safe,” officials continued.
