Senate Democrats and Republicans joined forces Wednesday to advance a bipartisan proposal of approximately $ 1 trillion to improve aging infrastructure of the United States, overcoming months of political stagnation in one of President Biden’s economic policy priorities.

Progress in the negotiation of the infrastructure plan proposed by President Joe Biden to Congress, began on Wednesday with the news of an agreement

, when a bipartisan bloc of 10 negotiators came together around a package to improve the country’s roads, bridges, pipelines, ports and Internet connections.

Hours later, the Senate voted in favor of promoting the bipartisan infrastructure plan. Senators voted 67 to 32 to push the bill: 17 Republicans and the 50 Democrats voted in favor.

This vote opens the process for debate and amend the infrastructure bill, that would allocate $ 550 billion dollars to transportation, broadband and utilities.

While the senators who backed the procedural motion could oppose a final package, Wednesday’s vote bodes well for its chances of passage.

The news caused jubilation in the White House, where President Biden presented this spring an employment and infrastructure plan of approximately $ $ 2 trillion funded largely through tax increases that Republicans quickly rejected.

We’ve reached a historic deal on infrastructure, folks. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal is the largest infrastructure bill in a century. It will grow the economy, create good-paying jobs, and set America on a path to win the future.

Legislators still need to draft their infrastructure bill as agreed and calibrate it accordingly. survive the vote in the divided Senate.

The progress made on Wednesday keeps the Senate on track to debate and potentially pass the proposed infrastructure before lawmakers begin the recess planned for August.
