Los Angeles approves increase in the minimum wage for tourism workers
By Ricardo Roura Dec 11, 2024, 10:45 PM EST With 12 votes in favor and 3 against, The Los Angeles City Council approved this Wednesday the increase in the minimum wage for tourism workersin addition to offering better health care benefits, in preparation for important sporting events coming in the coming years. The City Attorney's Office must update the Living Wage and Minimum Wage ordinances for Hotel Workersso that they return later to the Municipal Council. According to the proposal, the ordinances would be modified to gradually increase wages to $22.50 per hour by February 1, 2025with an increase to $25 per hour by 2026, $27.50 per hour by 2027 and $30 per hour by 2028.
