Boxer dies days after knockout at World Junior Championships

A young Jordanian boxer died after suffering a serious injury during a fight of the World Youth Boxing Championship , held in Poland.

The information was offered this Tuesday by the International Boxing Association . The victim identified as Rashed al-Swaisat was treated in the ring and later transferred to a hospital.

The fighter fell to the canvas after being knocked out by the Estonian boxer Anton Vinogradov in the city of Kielce. Both played in the preliminary round of light heavyweight.

“It is with deep sadness that we learned of the passing of Rashed Al-Swaisat from Jordan, who had been admitted to hospital on 16 April after their fight during the AIBA World Junior Championships, ”the body said.

The International Boxing Association regretted the loss of the athlete: “ Rashed is in our hearts and in our prayers. Our thoughts go out to his family, friends and teammates, to whom we offer Our condolences”.

AIBA did not immediately provide further information on the timing or circumstances of Al-Swaisat’s death. The Polish radio station Radio Zet Sport reported that died on Monday in a hospital in Kielce.
