They call the immigrant community to the May Day march

About 30 community organizations launched a call to the Los Angeles migrant community to participate in the May Day march in Los Angeles.

“It is imperative that migrants come forward because we are going to show our support for President Biden’s historic proposal to legalize the 11 millions of undocumented people in the country, ”said Francisco ‘Paco’ Moreno, director of the Council of Mexican Federations (COFEM).

He clarified that it will not be a protest march but a party because finally a president has put on his agenda the immigration reform for which they have fought for years.

The march will depart from Olympic and Broadway streets in downtown Los Angeles to the City Hall building where they will take held a demonstration on the steps along Spring Street.

“We are going to start gathering at 11 in the morning to leave half an hour later, heading to City Hall, ”said Juan José Gutiérrez, leader of the Coalition of Full Rights for Immigrants.

He specified that there are three politicians who have already committed to participate , Los Angeles Councilors Kevin De León and Gil Cedillo as well as California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara.

Gutiérrez said that the only lawsuit that the coalition n of 30 Organizations will raise during the march is “ full support for the initiative of President Joseph Biden , the United States Citizenship Act 110716, which seeks to regularize anyone who can prove to have been in the country before January 1, 2021 and are not a danger to national security ”.

He added that the march is to tell the president that the people are with him in his proposal to legalize all the undocumented.

And because we are in the middle of a pandemic, migrants will march with masks and those who do not feel comfortable join the caravan of vehicles, he said.

Gutiérrez said that the difference between the past May Day marches, which have always been for protesting against anti-immigrant policies, with the one on Saturday May Day, is that this is to support the president of the United States who has had the decency to want to solve the problem of undocumented migration.

“Two Latinos Linda Sánchez and Bob Menéndez presented the United States Citizenship Act 2021. So this May Day march will be a very important demonstration. ”

On the other hand, the Coalition for Immigrants’ Rights (CHIRLA) will start the march Day of May Day at Los Angeles State Historic Park, located north of Spring Street at number 1245, next to the Chinatown Metro station.

In a statement, they point out that they will raise your demands for a citizenship plan for 11 million, but also for legislation to be passed that dignifies workers, ends racial hatred and recognizes the strength of the community during COVID.
