Different media have reported that people in the United States do not love each other vaccinate . Louisiana has stopped claiming its entire Covid vaccine allocation from the federal government – 19. Three out of four Kansas counties have rejected new shipments of the vaccine at least once in the past month. And in Mississippi the authorities asked the government to send the jars in smaller packages to avoid waste.
President Biden announced Wednesday that the 200 million doses of Covid vaccines – 19 inoculated in the country , figure that he had promised to fulfill in his first 100 days of mandate and that they finally achieved a week before the committed date.
The accelerated application of vaccines and the three economic stimulus packages offered by the government, are allowing the return to normality, which is supported by a lower death rate, fewer infections, reopening business, job creation and economic recovery , among other benefits.
But the fact that Americans no longer want to be vaccinated is an issue that requires all the attention, because the longer it takes to control the pandemic, new strains are appearing and that may mean new waves of contagion that complicate what has been achieved so far.
A recent Reuters poll indicates that the concern of economists for the upcoming three months is precisely the control over the Covid – 19 , because although there are signs that the economy is is recovering rapidly, the battle is not won and the pandemic may cause new problems.
The government and businesses are doing their part to motivate people to get vaccinated , either by granting paid licenses to apply the dose in working hours or giving away products because they know how important it is to ensure that the entire population is protected from the coronavirus.
AP collected some of the arguments that people have for not getting vaccinated:
Customs of the People: Barbara Gennaro, mother of two in Mississippi, says that everyone in her neighborhood opposes the vaccine . She assures that her family has always doubted the application and efficacy of vaccines and that the coronavirus vaccine will not be the exception.
Religious beliefs: In Mississippi a woman commented that fear is what makes people get vaccinated, that she and a group of Christians with whom she has contact oppose the vaccine, “The greater the trust in the Lord, the less likely they want the vaccine or consider it necessary ”.
In Mississippi, Austin Bullard, pharmacist, commented that many people are waiting until the single dose vaccine is available , because many are afraid of what they have seen on the news, that some doses like Johnson’s & Johnson cause blood clotting .
In Kansas, a nurse from the rural district health department of Decatur, ensures that the people “just don’t want to get vaccinated” . The village has 2, 900 inhabitants and less than a third have received the first dose.
Other people argue that they have no time or have doubts about the reactions and the effectiveness of the drug.
Kristy Fryman, Public Information Officer for the Mercer County Health District in Ohio, told CNN that the younger population is not as eager to get vaccinated because have the idea that if they contract Covid – 20, it may not be so serious , while others wait to see what the side effects are in people who have already inoculated it .
Health officials estimate that between the 70% and the 85% of the population needs to be immune to the virus , either through vaccination or by previous infection, to suppress the spread.
To date around 40. 1% of the population has received at least one dose against Covid – 19 and around the 26% is fully vaccinated , according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
