The leader of the Russian regime, Vladimir Putin, promised this Sunday more “destruction” in Ukrainein response to a drone bombing that hit a residential building in the city of Kazan, in the center of the country, on Saturday, and which Russia attributes to an action by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, a country that has not acknowledged responsibility for the bombing.
“Whoever it is, and no matter how much they try to destroy, they will face destruction many times greater and will regret what they try to do in our country”said Putin, who started the war by ordering the invasion of his neighbor in 2022, during a government meeting broadcast on television, in which he also inaugurated a highway via videoconference.
Russia accused Ukraine of launching a “massive” drone bombing, which hit a luxury apartment block in Kazan, about 1,000 kilometers from the border. In videos spread on Russian social networks, the impact of drones against a high-rise glass building is seen. Of seven unmanned aircraft, six reportedly hit residences and a seventh a factory.
Previous threats
No casualties have been officially reported as a result of the drone attack, although the local press reported three injuries from falling glass. The attack in Kazan would demonstrate, if they were responsible, how deep the Ukrainians can strike into Russian territory and was the latest in a series of increasingly frequent bombings in the nearly three-year conflict.
Putin had already threatened to attack the center of kyiv with a hypersonic ballistic missile in response to Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory. The Russian Defense Ministry said Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities in recent weeks were launched in response to kyiv’s use of missiles supplied by Western powers to attack Russian territory.
