Passenger attacks Lyft driver in Texas: he slit his throat, tried to strangle him and stole his car

Authorities reported that A Lyft driver was brutally attacked by a passenger, who slit his throat, tried to strangle him, and stole his car while taking a trip in Texas..

Driver Dilaver Berk, 25, picked up a man for a ride Monday when he was attacked from behind and had his car stolen, according to Frisco police.

The suspect, Antwain Williams, 19, was charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon and evading arrest.. He also had an outstanding arrest warrant for allegedly encouraging a minor to perform a sexual act.

Berk, who now has stitches in his neck and bandages covering deep cuts on his hands, told police he picked up Williams while she was driving for Lyft on Monday night in Frisco, Texas.

When they arrived at Williams’ destination at Legends at Legacy Apartments at 3700 Legacy Drive shortly before 6 p.m., the suspect attacked the driver from behind with a knife and then a cable or wire in an attempt to strangle him.

“The man pointed a knife at Dilaver’s throat and cut his throat. He did it a couple of times,” Berk’s friend Dustin Tovi told Fox 4.

“Dilaver put his hands right in front of the knife and asked the rider: ‘Hey, whatever you want. Leave me alone’. And then he put a wire around his neck. Dilaver also extended his hand. And he received a lot of injuries on his fingers and neck because he was stabbed a couple of times,” Tovi continued.

Frisco police indicated that Williams stole Berk’s Toyota Camry and left it in the apartment building’s parking lot.. A woman nearby helped the driver and called 911 to report the incident.

Hours later, a patrol officer located the vehicle near Highway 423 and Rockhill. Police attempted to stop the driver, but he sped off in an attempt to evade police.

Police said Williams crashed and attempted to flee on foot, but was eventually arrested.

Williams remains in custody at the Denton County Jail.
