Jonathan Dos Santos is part of the Three-time America Championship and now he is approaching a mythical record of two Mexican soccer legends.
The América midfielder is about to join Rafael Márquez and Hugo Sánchez, who hold the record as the winningest Mexican players in the history of club soccer.
Dos Santos recently celebrated his third Liga MX title, after winning the Apertura 2024 with the Águilas del Américaa team that was crowned the first three-time champion in the era of short tournaments.
In this campaign, Jonathan established himself as a key player in Brazilian coach André Jardine’s scheme, being a reference both on and off the field.
Jonathan Dos Santos, from retirement to three-time championship
The story of this achievement has emotional overtones, since the player himself confessed that he was close to retiring before Jardine’s arrival to the team.
“I was on the verge of retiring, but thanks to the trust of the board and the coach I am here.” and now happy to be able to make a dream come true that I had since I was little,” declared Dos Santos after the title obtained at the BBVA Stadium.
With this new trophy, Jonathan has accumulated 16 titles in his career, being one step away from equaling the 17 championships that Márquez and Sánchez have.
