Man arrested in Florida for brutally attacking a child over a problem with a sofa

Authorities reported that A Florida man was arrested after being accused of yelling obscenities and physically assaulting a child for about half an hour due to the lack of a sofa cushion.

Lance Rachel Sr., 42, was charged with aggravated child abuse and assault by strangulation. He was booked into the Osceola County Jail.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office said the incident occurred on Dec. 7 at a home in Kissimmee, Florida, but was not reported until days later.

The sheriff’s office opened an investigation into the incident on December 11.

Rachel Sr. was angry that a couch cushion had been displaced and accused the boy of lying, according to the sheriff’s office.

The suspect “maliciously” punished the boy by shouting obscenities and physically abusing him for 28 minutes, the sheriff’s office said.

The agents said that the victim was hit with a belt more than 50 timesstrangled and insulted with various derogatory names and other obscenities.

At one point, the suspect threatened to break the boy’s jaw, according to deputies.

Part of the event was captured by home surveillance cameras, deputies said.

On December 16, officers interviewed Kimberly Rachel, 35, who confirmed the incident had occurred. She was arrested and charged with failing to report a known case of child abuse.
