Shou Chew, CEO of TikTok, visited the president-elect at his Mar-a-Lago mansion in Florida, trying to obtain his support to stop a law decreed by Joe Biden so that, as of January 20, the application of Chinese origin is blocked in the United States.
At the end of April of this year, Joe Biden, president of the nation, signed a bill to ban the social network TikTok unless it changes ownershipsince there is a fear that—being of Chinese origin—it could be used to filter content focused on destabilizing American society.
In this regard, Christopher Wray, director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), said he is convinced that the social network represents a threat to National Security..
“For us, TikTok represents a national security concern. The reason I say this is that TikTok’s parent company is beholden to the Chinese government. “They are currently trying to steal our AI and hack American technology every day,” he said.
Under this approach, An appeals court refused to stop a federal law through which ByteDance, the company that owns the social network, is required to sell it.
The television network cnn cites at least two sources who agree that the CEO of TikTok went to Trump’s home to play what appears to be one of his last cards and not see the future of the company in the American Union, where it is estimated that he has more than 170 million Americans registered in its database.
And the president-elect, who was once against said platform, demonstrated that he had changed his mind by supporting it if he managed to win the elections.
“I am in favor of TikTok because competition is needed. If you don’t have TikTok, you have Facebook and Instagram.
“I have a special place in my heart for TikTok because I won among young people by 34 points and there are those who say that TikTok has something to do with that,” he said.
It should be noted that, in the event that the Supreme Court refrains from intervening or the Chinese platform has not passed into the hands of a consortium operated by Americans, then it will be blocked from the first minute of January 20.
