Larry Mullen Jr.drummer of the rock group U2announced that was diagnosed with dyscalculia, a learning disability focused on mathematicswhich has made his performance as a musician require greater effort.

U2’s Bono revealed he has a half-brother

Mullen Jr., 63, was interviewed by Times Radio and he spoke about it: “I have always known that there is something that is not particularly right in the way I handle numbers. I have a number challenge, yrI recently realized that I have dyscalculia, which is an equivalent of dyslexia. So I can’t count and I can’t add.”

Dyscalculia has made it more difficult for Larry to keep up with the rhythm of songs.especially when the band performs in concert. “Sometimes when people see me play drums, they say, ‘It looks like it hurts.’ It hurts because I’m trying to count the bars. I had to find ways to do it, and counting the bars is like climbing Everest.”

Quite apart from this condition, Larry continues to recover from the neck surgery he underwent two years ago.and for which he could not be together with his fellow members of the group –Bond, The Edge and Adam Clayton– in the series of concerts they gave at the Sphere auditorium in Las Vegas. Fortunately, the pain he had in his elbows and knees has been decreasing.

U2 just released a special edition of their 2004 album How To Dismantle An Atomic Bombwith tracks unpublished. Larry Mullen Jr. is promoting the documentary “Left Behind”which is about a group of women determined to create the first public school in New York for children who suffer from dyslexia. The artist (who has a son with this learning difficulty) is one of the producers of the film and also wrote the soundtrack: “Making music through the eyes of my dyslexic son felt personal and visceral.” “Left Behind” will be released in the United States on January 17, 2025.
