Raúl de Molina could not avoid nostalgia and tears when saying goodbye to the reporter, Elizabeth Curiel, who She was fired from ‘El Gordo y la Flaca’, after 20 years working at Univision.

The program is the flagship of Hispanic entertainment in the United States and airs Monday through Friday at 4 pm Eastern time.

De Molina is known for his witty and, at times, “spicy” sense of humor.. However, in Thursday’s broadcast all this was left aside when the reporter said goodbye to both Lili Estefan and like him live.

“Elizabeth, It really has been a pleasure working with you and your husband, who is a cameraman.for so many years in El gordo y la flaca,” said the presenter of Cuban origin.

At the same time, he confessed that when he found out the news “he couldn’t believe it” and, before the cameras, He said “it was difficult” to say goodbye.

“We know her, she is our face in Mexico, which is the most important market, “He has been with us for so long and look what happens.”said Molina.

Wave of layoffs at Univision

Curiel thanked them both for their years of work and described them as the best of his career. As he said it, it was evident, the feeling that leaving the television program generated in him.

The reporter has been affected, like other Univision talents, by the wave of layoffs. Joining Curiel are other well-known figures such as chef Yisus, whose real name is Jesús Díaz, and the Honduran presenter Maity Interiano.

The television network also lost one of its best-known talents, journalist Jorge Ramos. The Mexican said “goodbye” to the channel this Friday and this Sunday, the last edition of his program ‘Al Punto’ will be broadcast.

Ramos worked for 38 consecutive years at Univision and in a letter he admitted how difficult it was for him to say goodbye. But, he only received praise and applause from celebrities and former teammates.

“Journalists are not like actors, who can live several lives through their characters. We have only one life, but a very intense one. The Nobel Prize in Literature, Gabriel García Márquez, was right when he said that journalism is the best job in the world. It forces us to stand firmly on the ground, as Isabel Allende once pointed out to me,” Ramos said in his farewell letter.
