The wave of violence in Mexico claimed the lives of Gloria Ambriz and her husband Rafael Cardona Aguileraan American couple, in the southern state of Michoacanone of the most violent in the country.
The victims, shot to death, were direct relatives of the mayor of the Michoacan municipality of de Angamacutirothe authorities reported.
The State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) revealed that a group of agents from the Ministerial Police is working on different lines of investigation, since the motive for the crime has not yet been identified.
One of the victims, Rafael Cardona was brother of Lucia Cardona Aguilerawife of Hermes Arnulfo Pacheco Bribiesca, mayor of Angamacutiro.
American couple shot to death in Michoacán
The couple of American citizens was shot dead last Wednesday by a group of alleged hitmen around 11:50 p.m. local time, when he was aboard a Ford brand truck, Platinum type, model 2016.
The crime occurred on Felipe Ángeles Street, in the Lázaro Cárdenas neighborhood of Angamacutirowhere the victims had a home that they visited during vacation periods, mainly at the end of the year.
Christmas celebrations suspended due to wave of violence
The mayor Hermes Arnulfo Pachecoof the ruling party, the MNational Regeneration Movement (Brunette), announced the suspension of public celebrations alluding to Christmas and New Yearin the face of the wave of violence that this region of Michoacán is registering.
Angamacutiro is located in the border area of Michoacán and the state of Guanajuatowhere authorities have identified the presence of cells of drug trafficking groups calling themselves Jalisco New Generation cartel (CJNG), Knights Templar cartel and Santa Rosa de Lima cartel.
These criminal organizations fight for control of illicit activities such as drug production and trafficking, kidnappings and extortion of businessmen, merchants and transporters.
Michoacan It ranks 11th in intentional homicides registered in November in Mexico, with 190 cases, of the 2,234 records nationwide, according to figures from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP).
