The director of the Federal Research Bureau (FBI), Christopher Wray, announced that he plans to resign his position when the current administration comes to an end in January, just before Donald Trump again assumes the presidency.
Prior to this announcement, Donald Trump had already chosen Kash Patel to replace Wray at the FBI, pending the Senate confirmation.
However, Trump did not miss the warning of Christopher Wray and reacted to the news shortly after with a statement criticizing Wray and praising Patel, who was in the Capitol on Wednesday to underpin the support between the Republican senators.
“The resignation of Christopher Wray is a great day for the United States, since it will end the use of what has been called the United States injustice department as a weapon“Trump wrote on his social media platform.
“I just don’t know what happened to him. We will now restore the rule of law for all Americans, ”he said.
Trump specifically pointed to the investigations of the Department of Justice against him carried out by special prosecutor Jack Smith.
“Under Christopher Wray’s leadership, the FBI raided my house illegally, for no reason, he worked diligently to prosecute me and accuse me illegally, and has done everything possible to interfere with the success and future of the United States, ”Trump wrote.
“They have used their vast powers to threaten and destroy many innocent Americans, some of whom can never recover from what they have been done,” he said.
For its part, Patel also spoke just after Wray’s announcement and said he will be ready from day 1.
“We hope the transition will be very fluid and I will be ready to start from day one,” he said.
