Recently the news spread that the Spanish midfielder from America, Alvaro Fidalgoalready has Mexican nationality. In a press conference prior to the duel that America will have against Blue Cross in the semifinal of the Apertura 2024 of the Liga MX“El Maguito” explained that he has been Mexican for months, but he did not believe it was necessary to reveal it.

Given the insistence of the media about whether he wants to wear the shirt of the Mexican national team, Fidalgo explained that the real reason why he became naturalized was because he loves the country in which he now lives.
“SI am very happy in the country and that is why I chose to take Mexican nationality.a”, he mentioned.
In this way, the Spanish midfielder made it clear that it was not his priority to play for El Tri when he became naturalized. Although, in fact, he couldn’t do it yet, even if he wanted to, since FIFA rules state that Before being called up you must have 5 years of participation in the local leaguefor which there are still 17 months left.
So the door remains open, even though I have no interest for now, In April 2026 there could be a rapprochement of the federation to talk about the topic in case it is considered as a possible selection.
Finally, about the semifinal between América and Cruz Azulsaid that both will seek victory and that the motivation is different; He also wanted to take pressure off the Águilas by remembering that La Maquina Celeste was the best team of the regular season and, therefore, the favorite in the match.
“We have different pressures in América and Cruz Azul. We have to go for the three-time championship, they were leaders and are favorites for it. For us, the three-time championship is a dream and for them it is to crown a great regular tournament,” he concluded.
