The authorities agreed to reinforce security in the municipality of Apaseo el Grande, located in the state of Guanajuato, with 300 agents from the Mexican Army and the National Guard, after the massacre of last November 30, in which eight people were murdered.
In a statement from the State Secretariat of Government, it was noted that in a meeting the State Secretariat of Security and Peace and the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), together with the Secretariat of National Defense (Defense), defined actions to prevent multiple homicides like the one recorded two days ago are repeated.
Last Saturday, eight people were murdered, including two firefighters and a paramedic, and two more people were injured, in an armed attack in the municipality of Apaseo el Grande.
Around 10:00 p.m. two men shot several people who attended several food establishments, located in the area known as “Trébol de los Apaseos”, a popular place in the municipality, the State Prosecutor’s Office indicated on Sunday after the first investigations.
During the meeting, the authorities agreed to “increase the presence of the three levels of government (municipal, state and federal) not only in that municipality, but in all those that border the state of Querétaro and those that could be targets of reactions of criminal groups “in the face of positive events and arrests made by local, state and federal police forces.”
In addition, they determined to carry out the supervision and reorganization of all “black turns” and those that have to do with the sale of alcohol, “since that is the main focus where criminal groups have been participating in a negative way,” said the Secretary of Security and Peace of the state of Guanajuato, Juan Mauro González.
Furthermore, the official said to use a helicopter from the Ministry of Security and Peace to reinforce air patrols.

Since 2018, Guanajuato, the sixth Mexican state with the most inhabitants, is the one with the highest number of homicides in the country, and according to local authorities, nine out of 10 have some link to organized crime. Between January and October 2024, Guanajuato accumulated a total of 2,119 intentional homicides, of which 1,788 were committed with a firearm.
