Elton John, the iconic 77-year-old British musician, has shared a shocking revelation about his health. During an appearance at the “The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical” charity gala night in London, the singer confessed that he has lost his sight after a struggle with a serious eye infection.
The event, which took place on December 1, 2024 at the Dominion Theater in London, served as a context for Elton John to speak openly about his state of health. “As some of you know, I have been having problems and now I have lost my sight,” he told the audience, explaining that he was unable to see the performance, although he enjoyed the music. “It’s hard for me to watch it, but I love listening to it,” added the artist, who is known for his contribution to the musical’s soundtrack.
In his words, John also expressed his gratitude to his husband, David Furnish, who has been a fundamental support during this difficult process. “To my husband, who has been my rock,” she highlighted, acknowledging his help in the most difficult moments.
This is not Elton John’s first public comment about his visual health. In September 2024, he had already revealed that he suffered a “serious eye infection” during the summer, which left him with “limited vision in one eye.” During that occasion, the singer mentioned that his right eye had completely lost vision, while his left eye was also in poor condition. However, he was optimistic about his recovery, although he admitted that the process was slow and that he still could not see clearly.
The “Rocket Man” star also recalled how the illness had prevented him from attending some of the previews of “The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical,” whose cast includes Tony nominee Vanessa Williams as Miranda Priestly. Despite his visual difficulties, Elton John remains a central figure in the world of music and culture, and his bravery in sharing his personal experience has moved many of his followers.
This charity event, which supported the Elton John AIDS Foundation, attracted numerous celebrities, such as Vogue editor Anna Wintour and actresses Lily Collins and Elizabeth Hurley, who accompanied the musician on this special night.
Despite the challenges he faces, Elton John continues to demonstrate his unwavering passion for music and his resilience in the face of adversity, supported by his family and close friends.
