In its attack this morning against the Ukrainian electrical system, Russia used a hundred drones and more than 90 missiles, some of them with cluster munitions, as reported by the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, on his social networks. “These cluster munitions significantly complicate the work to repair the damage caused by the attack,” wrote Zelensky, who described this latest bombing as “a perverse escalation of Russian terrorist tactics.”

The head of the Ukrainian state explained that The missiles carrying the cluster munition were Kalibr cruise missiles, with which Russia frequently attacks Ukrainian territory. Zelensky has thanked emergency workers and the electricity sector for their work in mitigating the consequences of the bombing, which is the eleventh massive Russian attack against the Ukrainian electrical system since last March.

“Each of these attacks shows that air defense systems are now necessary in Ukrainewhere they save lives, and not in the warehouses” of kyiv’s allies, the Ukrainian leader wrote. Zelensky stressed that his administration is working with its partners to deploy the largest number of anti-aircraft systems in Ukraine in the shortest time possible. The bombing, in which Ukraine shot down 79 missiles and 35 drones, left more than a million Ukrainians without power in winter temperatures.

The Russian president, Vladimir Putin, for his part, said that today’s attack is a “response” to the attacks against Russian territory with American and British weapons in recent days.. Putin, who attended a post-Soviet alliance security summit in Astana, admitted launching 90 missiles and 100 drones overnight at Ukraine. And he threatened that Russian attacks could also target decision centers in kyiv, which appears to be a direct threat against President Zelensky.
