One of the most wanted terrorists in the United States has been arrested in the United Kingdom after having been on the run for 21 years, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced.

Daniel Andreas San Diego46, was arrested on Monday following an operation backed by anti-terrorism police and local North Wales police.

He now faces extradition to the United States after being arrested at a property in a remote rural area near woodland in North Wales by Britain’s National Crime Agency (NCA).

The director of the FBI, Christopher Wray said: “The arrest of Daniel San Diego after more than 20 years as a fugitive for two bombings in the San Francisco area shows that no matter how long it takes, the FBI will find you and hold you accountable.”

“There is a right way and a wrong way to express your opinions in our country, and resorting to violence and destruction of property is not the right way,” Wray concluded.

San Diego, 46, is accused in the United States of place two bombs that exploded within an hour of each other in the early morning hours of August 28, 2003, on the campus of a biotechnology company in Emeryville, California. He is also accused of set off another bomb with nails tied to it at a nutritional products company in Pleasanton, Californiaa month later.

The attacks did not hurt anyone, but authorities said the bomb at the biotechnology company was intended to harm those providing emergency services.

The FBI had previously called the suspect, born in Berkeley, California, a “animal rights extremist”.

became the first alleged domestic terrorist to be added to the FBI’s most wanted terrorist list and a $250,000 reward was being offered for information leading to his arrest.
