Trump picks Brooke Rollins as Agriculture Secretary

The elected president donald trump announced on Saturday that he has chosen Brooke Rollins former policy advisor in the Trump White House, to serve as secretary of the Department of Agriculture (USDA).

“It is my great honor to nominate Brooke L. Rollins of the Great State of Texas to serve as the 33rd United States Secretary of Agriculture,” Trump said in a statement and later added: “Brooke’s commitment to supporting the American farmer, defending American food self-sufficiency, and recovering America’s small towns that depend on agriculture is second to none.”

Rollins is the executive director of the America First Policy Institutea group with close ties to Trump’s transition team, and has been a strong supporter of the president-elect.

Rollins later thanked Trump and wrote in X: “It will be the honor of my life to fight for America’s farmers and our nation’s agricultural communities. This is a big deal for a small-town farm girl from Glen Rose, Texas.”

The Secretary of Agriculture is responsible for overseeing various agricultural, livestock and forestry industries, as well as regulating aspects of food quality, safety and nutritional labeling.

Most of the Department of Agriculture’s budget goes to oversee several crucial social welfare programssuch as free school lunches and food stamps.
