Five months before he finishes serving his 40-year prison sentence for the crime of the DEA agent, Enrique Camarenathe drug dealer Ernesto Fonseca Carrilloalias “Don Neto,” asked that his punishment be considered fulfilled and that he be released before serving his punishment.
The historical leader of drug trafficking promoted a request for protection to resolve his request for partial remission of the sentence, a benefit that consists of deducting one day of prison for every two days of work for those sentenced.
Fonseca Carrillo presented his claim before Judge Jesús Chávez Hernández, against the omissions of two judicial instances to resolve his request for the aforementioned benefit, according to court records.
However, Judge Chávez Hernández declared himself incompetent to process the amparo and sent it to a Collegiate Court of Appeal, because it must be resolved by a jurisdictional body of the same level as the person responsible for the act complained of.
94 years old, On April 7, the capo will have his 40-year prison sentence completedimposed for the murders of Camarena and the pilot Alfredo Zavala, committed in February 1985.
“Don Neto” was arrested on April 7, 1985 in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco.and since then he has been imprisoned in the North Prison and the Federal Penitentiaries of the Altiplano and West, in the State of Mexico and Jalisco, respectively.
However, since July 28, 2016, he was granted the benefit of home confinement, to spend the rest of his punishment in the Hacienda Valle Escondido subdivision, in the Mexican municipality of Atizapán.
At his residence he is guarded by federal agents and monitored by closed circuit cameras 24 hours a day. Once he completes his sentence, he will be able to move freely.
Fonseca Carrillo is one of the most relevant figures in the history of drug trafficking in Mexico.
He was born on August 1, 1930 in Badiraguato, Sinaloa, and was arrested for the first time on April 4, 1955 in Mexicali, Baja California. He was the mentor of several generations of traffickers such as Pedro Aviles Perezalias “The Lion of the Sierra”, Rafael Caro Quintero and Juan José Esparragozaalias “El Azul”.
