Matt Gaetz announced his withdrawal from the candidacy to be Donald Trump’s Attorney General, so the Republican had to unveil a plan by His choice was former Florida State Attorney General Pam Bondi.
“I am proud to announce that Former Attorney General of the Great State of Florida, Pam Bondi, will be our next United States Attorney General. Pam was a prosecutor for almost 20 years, where she was tough on violent criminals and made the streets safe for Florida families.”
“As Florida’s first Attorney General, she worked to stop the trafficking of deadly drugs and reduce the tragedy of fentanyl overdose deaths.which have destroyed many families throughout our country. He did such an incredible job that I asked him to serve on our Commission on Opioid and Drug Abuse during my first term. “We saved many lives!” Trump said in his announcement.
Bondi was the first woman elected to serve as Florida Attorney General.a position she held for eight years after working as an assistant state’s attorney in Hillsborough County.
According to Trump’s social media post, Bondi focused on curbing immigration and combating the opioid epidemic during his term.
It is worth mentioning that Bondi is a staunch Trump ally and was one of his lawyers during his first impeachment trial.when he was accused – but not convicted – of abuse of power by trying to condition US military aid to Ukraine on that country investigating then-former Vice President Joe Biden.
He also spoke at a press conference in Pennsylvania after the 2020 presidential election alongside Eric Trump and Rudy Giuliani, falsely claiming that Trump had won the state before President Biden was declared the winner.
Gaetz reacted to the pick, posting on social media that Bondi was a “star pick” and a “proven litigator, inspirational leader and advocate for all Americans.”
