The elected president donald trump said Saturday that he would not ask his former Republican primary opponent Nikki Haley nor the former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to join his second administration, a notable snub to two officials who were part of his cabinet during his first term.

“I will not invite former Ambassador Nikki Haley or former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to join the Trump Administration, which is currently in formation,” Trump said in a post on his own social network, Truth Social.

Regarding both figures, who participated in his previous Executive (2017-2021), Trump added that “I really enjoyed and appreciated working with them before and I would like to thank them for their service to our country,” but on this occasion they will not have a place in his government. .

Pompeo seemed to have more chances of joining Trump for a second term, but the former director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has been publicly discarded by the Republican leader, who, as was customary in his first presidency, has begun to use social networks again to reveal appointments of their executive.

Pompeo was even considered a potential Republican presidential candidate, but in April 2023 he announced that he would not fight for the party’s nomination, which Trump ultimately won with great superiority.

For her part, Haley, also the former governor of South Carolina, did run in the Republican primary process and was the one who remained in the race with Trump the longest, until she ended up giving in to him when she was surpassed.

Haley finally gave him her public support, despite having harshly criticized him during the party’s primaries.

US media have already reported that Trump has been meeting in recent days with potential candidates to serve in his Administration and having them confirmed long before his inauguration as president, scheduled for January 20.
