Sergio “Checo” Pérez had his worst performance in a qualifying session at his home race, the Mexican Grand Prixwhere he finished in 18th position on the drivers’ grid and will have to start from the ninth row today alongside McLaren’s Australian Oscar Piastri in race number 20 of the 2024 Formula 1 season.

The Aztec driver had to deal with braking problems that arose in his RB20 car. since free practice on Saturday morning when he managed to keep the car on the trajectory or extend the braking as much as possible without affecting his performance on the track.

The difficulties were present from his first run with soft tires in Q1 when he immediately He was in the elimination zone and fell to 20th position, more than a second behind the leaders of the first round. In his last attempt, Checo Pérez managed to improve his pace with soft tires, but it was barely enough for him to reach step 15 and then see himself fall from it.
