The Competition Committee and the Anti-Violence Commission will have to analyze in the most meticulous way possible the video images of the racist and xenophobic insult towards the FC Barcelona striker, Lamine Yamal, by a fan located in the first rows of the stands. from the Santiago Bernabéu stadium, where the Barça attacker celebrated the 0-3 score in the 77th minute of the Clásico, (a duel that ended in victory (0-4) over Real Madrid) and the fans attacked him: “Puto negro”, “puto moro” and “go to the traffic light to sell tissues” were some of the phrases that are clearly audible in videos found on social networks.

Madrid condemned the events

LaLiga and Real Madrid immediately condemned the events and will proceed to punish those responsible for these acts. The white club responded promptly and issued a strong statement this Sunday, condemning the events and also letting it be known that it will be beginning an investigation to determine those responsible: “Real Madrid strongly condemns any type of behavior that involves racism, xenophobia or violence in football and sport, and deeply regrets the insults.” that a few fans said last night in one of the corners of the stadium. “Real Madrid has opened an investigation in order to locate and identify the authors of these regrettable and despicable insults, in order to adopt the relevant disciplinary and judicial measures.”

LaLiga spoke loud and clear

LaLiga also raised its voice in this regard with the following statement: “LaLiga and Real Madrid will act to condemn the events. Given the events that occurred during the Real Madrid CF – FC Barcelona matchin which intolerable racist behavior was observed, LALIGA will immediately report the insults and racist gestures received by the FC Barcelona players to the Hate Section of the Information Brigade of the National Police, informing the Hon. LALIGA strongly condemns these events that occurred at the Santiago Bernabéu and remains firm in its commitment to eradicate any type of racist behavior and hatred inside and outside the stadiums. There is no place for this scourge in sport.”

Similar sanctions as in Mestalla?

In recent times, the regulations of Spanish football have proven to be inflexible and totally forceful when condemning the manifestations of racism with punishments, especially from the offenses directed towards the Brazilian forward and member of Real Madrid, Vinícius Júnior, during the Valencia-Real Madrid match in May 2023.

The Competition Committee partially closed the lower stands of Mestalla for a total of 5 matchesalthough after that the sanction was reduced to three. In addition, three local fans were sentenced to eight months in prison and were permanently expelled by the ‘ché’ club.
