The former president donald trump held a rally in Michigan on Saturday, where he invited Muslim leaders to come on stage with him as he courted Arab American and Muslim voters in the state critical for election results.
Trump harshly criticized the singer Beyoncé, the press and the early voting system during the rally aimed to promote early voting in Michigan, coinciding with the start of early voting.
However, The Republican presidential candidate went off script and ended up questioning that voting method.
Trump called the early voting process a “ridiculous system” and reiterated his belief that single-day voting, with paper ballots, is more secure. In addition, conspiracy theories, already launched in 2020, were once again spread about the possibility that votes cast before election day would not be counted, which is false.
Although the Republican Party has made efforts to promote early voting to increase participation in the elections, Trump assured this Saturday that he intends to eliminate this methodboth in person and through postal voting, if elected.
In a speech without a clear common thread, Trump also criticized the participation of the singer Beyoncé in a rally in Houston, his hometown, alongside the Democratic candidate and vice president. Kamala Harris at an event dedicated to the defense of reproductive rights.
Specifically, Trump criticized her for not having performed any songs during the rally. “Beyoncé spoke for a couple of minutes and then left,” he said, adding that the audience “thought she was going to perform.”
Trump too repeatedly attacked members of the press, whom he described as “evil” and “false.”
Besides, He insulted the city of Detroit againthe most populated in Michigan, as it did at the beginning of the month. “Detroit makes us a developing nation,” he said, referring to the deindustrialization that the city suffered after the closure of automotive factories in the last two decades.
Trump’s rally took place in the town of Novi, about a 30-minute drive from Detroit. Part of the goal of the event was to attract the vote of Michigan’s Arab community, and during the event imams spoke who expressed their dissatisfaction with President Joe Biden’s management of the war in Gaza.
